Athens Greece Acropolis

The Acropolis, Athens, Greece

I’d been in Athens for a week, so I was well past-due to check out the Acropolis. Lucky for me, the weather was warm and sunny that day, with clear visibility all the way to the ocean. The Acropolis is a complex of several ancient buildings situated at the top of a rocky outcrop with a 360 degree view of Athens.  Continue reading The Acropolis, Athens, Greece

cube houses Rotterdam

Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

If I had to sum up Rotterdam in one phrase, it would be “City of Creative Architecture.” What Rotterdam lacks in classic European charm, it makes up for in innovative and creative structures that you won’t see anywhere else in the world. Continue reading Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

Den Haag Scheveningen Pier Columns 2

Den Haag, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

The second Dutch city I explored was The Hague, or Den Haag. A short hour-ish train ride from Amsterdam and you’re there. I love how small this city is, very walkable with lots of character, cafes, and museums! Continue reading Den Haag, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands

Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands

Oh, Amsterdam! My first trip to Europe began here in this big, beautiful city. From my first venture into Centraal I was in love! It is clean, walkable, bike-friendly, has great public transit, and most everyone speaks English. Continue reading Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands

New Year’s in Alaska!

What better time of year to visit Alaska than New Year’s in the dead of winter?! I was coerced into this frosty adventure by a good friend and promised an amazing New Year’s Eve at a concert by one of my favorite artists, Slow Magic. The day after the show, we decided to make the most out of our four hours of daylight by driving south from Anchorage to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Here are a few of the best photos from that visit. Yes, it was as cold as it looks!  Continue reading New Year’s in Alaska!

Redeye to NYC

The excitement of travel

Travel just wouldn’t be exciting without a jolt of stress and indecision beforehand… I was all set to leave for New York on a redeye to visit a friend, spend a few days exploring, and ultimately help him drive his rental car back to Salt Lake City with his adorable dog for the holidays. Three hours before departure as I’m packing my dad texts me in a panic,  Continue reading The excitement of travel

Cross-country road trip in December: Why not?

When I saw my friend’s post on Facebook, “I’m planning a road trip from New York to Utah for the holidays, taking I-78 and the 70. Anyone ever do this? Am I nuts?”, I had already been looking for an excuse to visit New York City again. I playfully commented, “Want company?”, unsure if he’d take me up on my offer. I received a message an hour later, “It’s a long ass road trip.” The plan is Pittsburg, Colombus, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, and finally Salt Lake City. The only city on the list I’ve been to before, besides Salt Lake of course, is Denver, so I was very interested. “Let’s do this!” Continue reading Cross-country road trip in December: Why not?

Tulum Ruins Caribbean

Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

The town of Tulum is a quick hour drive south of Playa del Carmen. It’s known for its hippie vibe and beautiful Mayan ruins at the top of sheer limestone cliffs overlooking the turquoise blue Caribbean. Continue reading Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico

While I was living in Playa del Carmen, a group of my friends from back home rented a beautiful luxury home in Akumal for ten days and invited me over to visit.  Akumal is a small town about 30 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. It is known for its year-round population of several species of sea turtles and other marine life which inhabit a coral reef a short distance from the beach. It is an amazing place to snorkel as you are almost guaranteed to see a sea turtle, if not several, as they graze along the ocean floor where the sea grass grows. Continue reading Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo, Mexico

I had been hearing from everyone, it seemed, that I should make an effort to visit Isla Holbox. As luck would have it, some friends of mine had a trip planned and invited me to tag along last minute! Isla Holbox is a small island just north of the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. Continue reading Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo, Mexico
